Five-Story Affordable Housing Project Proposed for East Hollywood Site

Plans have been submitted to the Los Angeles Department of City Planning for a new five-story affordable housing development situated at 1058 N. Kingsley Drive in East Hollywood. The project, spearheaded by property owner and applicant Shahar Gil, proposes the construction of 76 apartments. All units, with the exception of a mandatory manager's residence, are designated as restricted affordable housing. This new complex is slated to replace four existing homes located just south of Santa Monica Boulevard.

The development is designed to incorporate prefabricated modular units and will feature a rooftop amenity deck for residents. Entitlements for the project are being pursued through a citywide housing incentive program, which facilitates the creation of housing, in this case, allowing for the omission of on-site parking. Emilson, Inc., an architecture firm, is listed as part of the project team. Public records show the property was last acquired in 2022 for $1.6 million. This initiative demonstrates a strategy for leveraging city incentives and modular construction to deliver much-needed affordable housing within a dense urban environment like East Hollywood.
