Construction has gone vertical for The Court Residences, a new affordable housing complex by Visionary Developments located at 1540 Court Street in Los Angeles' Echo Park neighborhood. Nearly a year after work began, the seven-story building is progressing to deliver 189 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments. These units are designated for low- and middle-income households and will not include on-site parking.

The project secured approvals through development incentives that allowed for a larger structure than standard zoning rules would permit, in exchange for providing affordable housing. Additionally, it benefited from streamlined processing under the Mayor's Executive Directive 1, as confirmed by the Planning Department. Kevin Tsai Architecture is responsible for the design, with JZA Architecture serving as the executive architect. This team is also involved in other affordable housing initiatives in the Echo Park area. For developers and lenders, this project exemplifies how policy tools like ED1 and density bonuses can accelerate the delivery of critical housing supply.
