Vision Theatre in Leimert Park Reopens After $40 Million Renovation

The historic Vision Theatre in Los Angeles' Leimert Park has officially reopened following a comprehensive $40 million renovation. Originally opened in 1932 as the Leimert Theatre, the venue underwent significant upgrades since the current project began in 2015, building on an initial renovation completed in 2011. The City of Los Angeles acquired the property in 1999, transforming it into a performing arts center.

Extensive work includes reconfigured seating, a new lounge area, an enlarged stage, a fly loft with office spaces, updated dressing rooms, green rooms, an orchestra pit, and a restored marquee. The Department of Cultural Affairs (DCA) partnered with Where Art Can Occur (WACO) Theater Center last year for co-management, with WACO providing diverse programming such as plays, dance, and concerts, while DCA oversees operations. This revitalization marks a substantial public investment in a key cultural asset for the community, overcoming delays from an initial 2021 completion target. The reopening provides a modern, fully equipped venue for performing arts in a historically significant location.
