Ten-Unit Townhouse Project Filed Under SB 330 in San Mateo

Plans have been submitted for a new residential development at 1 Hayward Avenue in San Mateo. Sponsored by property owner DNL Real Estate Development, the project calls for demolishing three single-story duplexes to construct a three-story residential building containing ten townhouse-style units over a shared basement garage.

The 0.3-acre parcel sits at the intersection of Hayward Avenue and El Camino Real, situated three blocks from downtown San Mateo and one block south of San Mateo Central Park. Designed by Haonan Studio with landscape architecture by Jett, the proposal incorporates exterior finishes of stained stone, aluminum panels, and horizontal louvers. The layout includes private backyard space, rooftop decks, individual entry stoops along El Camino Real, and 22 vehicular parking spaces accessed via Hayward Avenue.

To facilitate the entitlement process, the developer has submitted the application under California Senate Bill 330. Construction schedules and total project costs have not been disclosed.
