Piedmont Healthcare Plans $600 Million Hospital Relocation in Georgia, Skanska Secures $84 Million Data Center Contract
Piedmont Healthcare is committing $600 million to construct a new hospital in Newton County, Georgia. This significant investment will facilitate the relocation of Piedmont Newton Hospital, currently situated in Covington, which has operated from its 1954-built facility and faces limitations due to aging physical infrastructure. The project represents the healthcare network's second-largest capital undertaking and follows nearly $2 billion in expansion projects over the last five years, signaling a robust commitment to modernizing healthcare facilities in the state.
Concurrently, Skanska has secured an $84 million contract for the construction of a new data center in Georgia. The project for an undisclosed client will encompass a 245,000-square-foot facility, featuring five colocation halls and administrative areas designed to support 48 megawatts of capacity. Work is scheduled to commence in November 2026, with an expected completion in the third quarter of 2028. These developments highlight ongoing substantial investment in both critical social infrastructure and the rapidly expanding digital economy within Georgia, presenting significant opportunities for construction and development firms.
