Houston’s Wells Fargo Plaza, Third-Tallest Texas Skyscraper, Listed for Sale
The 71-story Wells Fargo Plaza, a prominent 1.7 million-square-foot office skyscraper located at 1000 Louisiana Street in downtown Houston, has been listed for sale. This transaction could represent one of the largest office building deals in Houston in recent years. Standing at 992 feet, the tower is recognized as the third-tallest in Texas.
Owners Metropolitan Life Insurance Co. and the New York State Common Retirement Fund, who acquired a 50% stake in 2011, have engaged JLL Capital Markets brokers Jeff Hollinden and Kevin McConn to manage the sale. Developed by Century Development and opened in 1983, the building was designed by Richard Keating of Skidmore, Owings & Merrill.
Currently, the Wells Fargo Plaza is 70.6% occupied, housing major tenants such as Wells Fargo, NextDecade, PwC, and Susman Godfrey. Its listing follows other notable Houston office sales, indicating continued activity in the city's commercial property market. For developers and investors, this offering presents a significant opportunity to acquire a landmark asset in a key urban center.
