The Colleyville City Council recently approved a 2027 spending budget exceeding $98.3 million, effective for the fiscal year beginning October 1. This budget includes a general fund of $30.78 million for essential city services, alongside allocations for capital projects, the utility fund, and increased debt service.

A significant component of the new budget is a rise in the property tax rate to 35.248 cents per $100 of property value, up from 31.19 cents, representing a 13% increase. This adjustment means the owner of an average $678,000 home will pay an additional $283 in city taxes annually. Finance director Cassie Smith noted that a 3% decline in overall property values necessitated the higher rate to maintain consistent revenue levels.

Mayor Bobby Lindamood acknowledged the tax increase, attributing rising expenses to new recreation center employees, healthcare costs, public safety compensation adjustments, and increased debt payments for equipment like fire trucks and police vehicles. Additionally, water and wastewater base rates will increase by $2.48 and $2.59 respectively, adding $5.07 to the average monthly residential bill. For developers and property owners, these changes signal higher operational costs and property tax burdens within the city.
