Babers Manor, an 80-Unit Affordable Housing Development, Opens in Fort Worth’s Stop Six Neighborhood
Babers Manor, an 80-unit affordable housing development, recently celebrated its grand opening in Fort Worth's Stop Six neighborhood. Named after local leader Clarence Donald Babers, the $30.5 million property at 4400 Ramey Ave. features a mix of two- and three-story apartment buildings and townhomes. Of the units, 51 are reserved for low-income households across various area median income tiers (30%, 50%, 60%, 80%), with four permanently designated as supportive housing, while the remaining 29 units are market rate.
This development is a key component of the $35 million Choice Neighborhoods Implementation grant, awarded by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to Fort Worth Housing Solutions in April 2020. The broader Stop Six Choice Neighborhood Initiative aims to replace 300 former Cavile Place units with approximately 1,000 new, mixed-income homes, leveraging an estimated $345 million in total development activity. Babers Manor is the third phase of this initiative, following Cowan Place Senior Living and Hughes House I, with additional phases underway.
The complex offers residents on-site social services, playgrounds, a fitness center, and a business center. This project exemplifies how federal grants and local partnerships can drive significant community revitalization and address critical housing needs for diverse income levels within a specific urban area.
