Fort Worth City Council to Vote on Selling Downtown Properties to Kent Family’s Jun Crown Properties
The Fort Worth City Council is slated to vote on October 13 on the sale of four city-owned properties in downtown Fort Worth to Jun Crown Properties, an entity associated with the Kent family's business group. The proposed transaction, valued at $4.3 million, includes three buildings and associated parking lots, totaling 222,239 square feet across 1.32 acres. These properties, located near the burgeoning Texas A&M-Fort Worth campus and the Fort Worth Convention Center, became available after nearly 1,600 city employees relocated to the new city hall. This opens a significant redevelopment opportunity in the central business district.
Among the properties is the iconic Lone Star Gas Company Building at 908 Monroe Street, a historically designated structure designed by Wyatt C. Hedrick in 1929, with additions in 1957. The sale also includes the adjacent Gordon Swift Building at 900 Monroe Street and a 338-space parking garage. Jun Crown Properties, known for its investments in the city's Near Southside, has offered to acquire the properties as-is. The city will repair and reinstall the historic blue flame neon sign on the Lone Star Gas Building before the expected closing date of November 5. This sale represents a key redevelopment opportunity in a prime downtown location.
