Fort Worth Nonprofit Empowers Veterans in Real Estate Development for Community Revitalization
Andy Williams, founder of the trade school Rehab Warriors, established Rebuilding the Fort, a nonprofit based in Fort Worth. This organization aims to empower veterans to lead real estate development and community building initiatives, addressing housing shortages and improving neighborhoods. The platform connects veterans, trained in real estate and project management through programs like Rehab Warriors, with cities seeking investment and redevelopment. Rebuilding the Fort currently partners with Fort Worth, Arlington, Irving, Hurst, and Balch Springs, and is in discussions with other cities nationwide. Marine veteran Lt. Col. James L. Williams highlights the reliability and consistency of trained veterans as valuable resources for cities. The training covers complex aspects of housing development, from tax abatements to utilizing VA loans. Roderick Williams, an Army veteran, successfully applied these skills to complete his first housing project, demonstrating the program's effectiveness in transitioning military skills to real estate investment. This initiative provides a structured pathway for veterans to contribute to urban redevelopment while building new careers.
