The city of Fort Worth has applied to the federal Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for $13.5 million in grants to fund housing and homelessness programs. The 2026-2027 Action Plan was submitted on August 14, following a September 9 meeting with the city's Community Development Council, an advisory board that helps prioritize federal funding.

The grant request is divided into four key areas: $7.1 million from the Community Development Block Grant for low/moderate-income housing and services, $2.8 million from the HOME Investment Partnership for affordable housing, $625,000 from the Emergency Solutions Grant for homelessness programs, and $2.9 million from the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) program.

These funds are earmarked for distribution to various local nonprofits and for direct investment in affordable housing initiatives. Specific allocations include support for homeownership training, aging-in-place services, youth programs, workforce development, and emergency financial assistance for veterans. The HOME Investment Partnership funds, in particular, will facilitate the acquisition, new construction, rehabilitation, and site improvements for affordable housing projects. Developers and housing providers in Fort Worth should monitor these allocations for potential partnership opportunities and funding for new or existing projects aimed at increasing the city's affordable housing stock.
