Permits Filed for 28-Unit Apartment Building Near Mills College in Oakland

New permits have been filed for a four-story apartment building at 5139 MacArthur Boulevard in Oakland, proposing 28 new residential units. The project, named Mills Grove, is located near the historic Mills College at Northeastern Campus. These recent filings represent a modification to previously submitted permits for the adjacent 5091 MacArthur Boulevard site earlier this year.

The proposed development will feature 28 two-bedroom units, designed to accommodate either families or students, leveraging its proximity to the college. The plans also indicate a reduction in on-site parking, with 26 spaces now proposed, down from an earlier count of 28. MBH Architects is responsible for the design, which includes a combination of cement lap siding, concrete panels, and tiling for the exterior.

Situated on a 0.4-acre vacant lot at the corner of MacArthur Boulevard and Simmons Street in Oakland’s Maxwell Park neighborhood, the project aims to add much-needed housing supply.
