C.W. Driver Cos. Breaks Ground on $74 Million Middle School and Gymnasium in Malibu

C.W. Driver Cos. has initiated the second phase of development for the Malibu Middle and High School campus, a substantial $74 million undertaking for the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District. This phase involves the construction of new middle school core facilities and a dedicated gymnasium, encompassing a total of 40,000 square feet across two distinct buildings.

The middle school core building is designed to feature special education and counseling spaces, a wellness center, a media lab, and food-service areas, complemented by shaded outdoor spaces. The new gymnasium facility will include a fitness studio and a multi-sport court, capable of supporting various athletic activities such as basketball, volleyball, soccer, and badminton.

This project, which recently broke ground, is a collaborative effort involving LPA Architecture, Massetti Consulting, and Element Consulting. The expansion is slated for completion in late 2028, significantly enhancing the educational and recreational infrastructure for the Malibu community. For developers and contractors, this project highlights ongoing public sector investment in educational facilities and the potential for future large-scale civic development opportunities in the region.
