LA Family Housing Opens 90-Unit Supportive Housing Project in Valley
LA Family Housing and its sister organization LAFHBUILDS have finished The Pano, a San Fernando Valley project that turned a former motel into supportive housing. The site sits at 8209 N. Sepulveda Boulevard, where the roughly $57-million redevelopment converted the motel into 41 apartments and added a three-story building with 50 residential units. Together the project provides 90 supportive housing units along with space for on-site services.
Funding includes the State of California's Project Homekey program and $10 million raised from philanthropic partners. The design, led by Los Angeles-based office42, includes studio units, a community room, a rooftop patio, a dog run and offices for on-site staff. United Building Co. served as general contractor and Barker Management as property manager.
The organizations are also planning a larger project on a Metro-owned site beside the G Line in Lake Balboa.
For developers and financiers, the project shows how an existing motel can be combined with new construction and state Homekey funding to deliver a large supportive housing portfolio.
