Prefabricated Construction Starts on 32-Unit Affordable Project in Mill Valley

Modular assembly is officially underway for a new five-story affordable housing development at 156 Shoreline Highway in unincorporated Mill Valley, Marin County. Developed and owned by Idaho-based Pacific Companies, the project replaces an existing surface parking lot across a 0.6-acre parcel.

Designed by AO alongside Thomas Phelps Landscape Architecture, the 58-foot-tall structure will span roughly 32,400 square feet. Plans call for 32 residential units, broken down into 24 one-bedroom and eight two-bedroom apartments. The site plan also accommodates surface parking for seven vehicles and designated storage for 31 bicycles.

Crews are currently installing prefabricated building sections, a phase anticipated to wrap up in approximately two weeks depending on weather conditions. The total construction timeline from groundbreaking to tenant move-in is projected at 18 months. For local builders and infill developers, the project highlights the ongoing adoption of modular construction techniques to accelerate delivery schedules for subsidized housing on compact suburban commercial corridors.
