Waste Container Maker Citibin Triples Industry City Footprint to 15,000 SF
Citibin, a manufacturer of trash, recycling and compost enclosures, has nearly quadrupled its leased space at Industry City in Brooklyn's Sunset Park, according to Commercial Observer. The company upped its lease from 4,600 square feet to 15,000 square feet under a five-year agreement.
The 10,400-square-foot expansion is attributed by an Industry City spokesperson largely to New York City policies requiring waste to be stored in bins. Asking rents for the campus's upper-floor industrial spaces range from $21 to $29 per square foot. Industry City's Nick Shears handled the leasing for the landlord, while Cresa's Bert Rosenblatt represented Citibin.
Citibin moved to Industry City in 2017, consolidating operations from two warehouses in New Jersey and Red Hook. The company now supplies sealed, rodent-proof containers to 58 of the city's 78 business improvement districts, and also serves customers in Chicago, Baltimore and Boston. Its office space has doubled and its warehouse has more than tripled since 2017, according to the landlord.
For industrial occupiers and landlords, the deal shows how regulatory shifts in waste management can drive demand for flexible, multi-function industrial space in New York City.
