Grunt Style to Close San Antonio Broadway Retail Store Amid National Layoffs
San Antonio-based retailer Grunt Style is initiating a nationwide closure of its retail stores, including its prominent location at 900 Broadway in Downtown San Antonio. This move will result in the layoff of all 19 retail employees at the Broadway site by November 30. The company, which markets clothing to veterans and military enthusiasts, submitted Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act notices to the Texas Workforce Commission for its San Antonio and El Paso stores. Similar closures or notices have been reported in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Missouri.
While the retail site at 900 Broadway is slated for full closure, the future of Grunt Style's corporate headquarters, which also occupies space at the same address and employs 30 non-retail staff, remains undecided. This marks the second significant round of layoffs for the company in two years, following 100 job cuts at its Chicago production facility last year. The closure of the Broadway retail space will introduce commercial vacancy into the downtown San Antonio market, impacting local property stakeholders and potentially signaling broader shifts in the retail sector for brands targeting niche demographics.
