Lakewood Approves 388-Unit Apartment Project Replacing Former Office Building
The City of Lakewood recently approved plans for a significant residential development at 3200 E. Carson Street. Texas-based developer JPI is behind the project, which will see a 1980s office building replaced by a new five-story structure. The development is planned to include 388 residential units and will span over 630,000 square feet, encompassing the residential spaces, amenity areas, and a parking structure.
City records indicate that AO is responsible for the design of the project. The nearly five-acre property was reportedly sold by AARP in December 2025. This Lakewood development is part of JPI's broader strategy in Southern California, with the company also having announced similar residential plans in Gardena and currently building housing in West Carson and Downtown Long Beach.
This project represents a notable office-to-residential conversion, contributing to the housing supply in the region. For developers and investors, it highlights the potential for repurposing existing commercial sites for new residential uses, particularly in areas with strong demand for housing.
