Pasadena Design Commission Reviews Revised Plans for 71-Unit Senior Housing Project
Revised plans for a mixed-use senior housing development at 540 S. Lake Avenue in Pasadena have been reviewed by the city's Design Commission. The project, proposed by DDI 540 S. Lake, LLC, involves constructing a five-story building near the Caltech campus. It is designed to feature 71 apartments exclusively for seniors, alongside 2,325 square feet of retail space and parking for 89 vehicles.
These updated plans represent an increase in residential density compared to a 2019 proposal, which had called for 62 units and a larger commercial component. LCRA remains the architect for the contemporary podium-style building, which will incorporate stucco with wood accents. In addition to the residential units, the development will include common spaces such as terrace decks and a courtyard for residents. For developers and investors, this project highlights the ongoing demand for senior housing and the iterative nature of the entitlement process in Pasadena.
