LAUSD Advances Plans for Affordable Housing Projects in West Hollywood and Woodland Hills
The Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) Board of Education recently approved exclusive negotiating agreements for the redevelopment of two district-owned sites into affordable and workforce housing. At its October 6 meeting, the Board selected developers for the 6.5-acre former Collins Elementary School campus in Woodland Hills and the 1.5-acre West Hollywood Opportunity Center property on Fairfax Avenue.
Affirmed Housing was chosen for the Woodland Hills site, proposing 391 one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments for renters earning between 30 and 120 percent of the area median income. This project anticipates breaking ground in Summer 2029. West Hollywood Community Housing Corp. will develop the Fairfax Avenue site, planning 207 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom apartments for the same income range, along with ground-floor commercial space. Work on this project is expected to commence in Summer 2028.
Both projects are subject to final agreement negotiations with LAUSD, in addition to navigating the entitlement process and securing necessary financing. These developments represent a strategic utilization of surplus public land to address housing needs within Los Angeles County.
