August Place LLC Proposes 12-Unit Apartment Complex in San Rafael

Mill Valley-based August Place LLC has submitted development plans for a 12-unit apartment building at 50 Merrydale Road in San Rafael. The proposed project sits on a vacant 0.4-acre lot near the terminus of Merrydale Road, just off North San Pedro Road and adjacent to U.S. Highway 101.

Designed by San Rafael-based SKS Architects, the three-story, 36-foot-tall structure will span roughly 21,700 square feet. The floor plan allocates 13,960 square feet for residential living space and 6,010 square feet for a ground-floor garage accommodating 12 vehicles. The unit mix consists of 12 rental apartments, including one deed-restricted home set aside for a low-income household. Architectural renderings depict an exterior finished with stucco, Hardie-board lap siding, and vertical board-formed concrete.

The property is situated approximately half a mile from the Marin County Civic Center. For infill developers and investors, this project illustrates ongoing efforts to deliver low-scale multifamily density on underutilized suburban parcels in Marin County.
