Hoag Hospital Irvine Completes $1 Billion Expansion, Doubling Patient Capacity
Hoag Hospital Irvine has announced the completion of its $1 billion expansion, known as the Sun Family Campus, located along Sand Canyon Avenue. This significant project involved the construction of six new buildings, effectively more than doubling the hospital's patient capacity. The expansion adds 155 inpatient beds, bringing the total to 251, alongside 11 new operating rooms and two procedure rooms.
The new facilities are designed to integrate various stages of patient care, offering comprehensive services in cancer, women's health, digestive health, surgical procedures, emergency care, and orthopedics. Key additions include approximately 120,000 square feet of ambulatory facilities, a dedicated cancer urgent care clinic, and a new women’s hospital featuring a 24-hour OB emergency department and a 17-bed Level III NICU.
Designed by LPA Design Studios, the campus emphasizes patient experience with buildings arranged around landscaped gardens and incorporating natural light. Robert Brunswick, Hoag Hospital board chair, highlighted the focus on patient and family movement through the facilities and the supportive environment. This expansion represents a major investment in healthcare infrastructure for Orange County, providing enhanced specialized medical services to the region.
