Manchester Financial Group Considers 400MW Data Center for Former San Diego Navy Site
Manchester Financial Group is reportedly seeking investment for a substantial 400MW data center to be developed on a 70-acre plot in San Diego. This site, formerly home to the Naval Information Warfare Systems Command (NAVWAR), is part of a larger redevelopment initiative. In 2024, Manchester and Edgemoor Infrastructure and Real Estate secured a 99-year lease from the Navy to redevelop the land, in exchange for providing new facilities for NAVWAR staff, who currently occupy outdated World War II-era hangars.
While earlier proposals for the site included a mixed-use development featuring apartments, hotels, retail, and potentially a stadium or hospital, the current exploration of a data center represents a significant shift. Local officials, including Rep. Scott Peters and Councilmember Marni von Wilpert, have voiced concerns regarding transparency and the potential displacement of housing opportunities, advocating for a new community with residential and commercial spaces. The final project design remains unapproved, with Manchester Financial Group prioritizing the delivery of modern NAVWAR facilities.
