Inglewood Breaks Ground on $261M Downtown Mobility Hubs Project

Inglewood Breaks Ground on $261M Downtown Mobility Hubs Project

InfrastructureZoning

The City of Inglewood held a groundbreaking for a $261 million transportation and public realm project that aims to connect the K Line with SoFi Stadium, the Kia Forum and Intuit Dome. Elevate Inglewood Development Corporation, a team of Plenary Americas, Swinerton and Walter P. Moore, will deliver the first phase of the Inglewood Transit Connector, funded entirely by the State of California and Metro.

The plan includes three new mobility hubs. The largest will sit at Florence Avenue and Market Street and link to the K Line's Downtown Inglewood Station through a pedestrian bridge. Across the project, developers expect more than 1,000 parking spaces, rideshare zones, new retail space and a ten-bay bus plaza on Market Street, along with sidewalks, landscaping, lighting and wayfinding along Market, Manchester Boulevard and Queen Street.

Heavy work is scheduled to start in November and continue through spring 2028, mostly at night and moving block by block. Officials say the upgrades should help with traffic during the 2028 Summer Olympics and the roughly 60 major annual events at city venues. Later phases would add event-day bus lanes linking the K and C Lines. The project was designed so a people mover could still be built if funding returns, after an earlier people mover effort stalled in 2024.

For builders and financiers, the practical takeaway is to expect phased night-time street closures and access changes around Market Street through 2028.
