The Los Angeles County Affordable Housing Solutions Agency (LACAHSA) has announced the closing of its first construction loan, allocating $7.5 million to the Sankofa Place at Centinela project in Inglewood. This mixed-use development, a collaboration between Venice Community Housing, Linc Housing, and the Social Justice Learning Institute, is planned for a vacant site at 400 Centinela Avenue.

Sankofa Place will feature 120 units of affordable housing, designed for residents earning between 30 and 80 percent of the area median income. Additionally, the project will provide a permanent facility for the Social Justice Learning Institute. The total estimated cost for the development is $44 million, with funding sourced from various state and local programs.

Beyond the housing and institutional space, state funding will support off-site infrastructure improvements. These include the creation of a new east-west bikeway parallel to Florence Avenue and investments in electric buses, enhancing local transportation options. Aero Collective and The Architects Collective are responsible for the project's design. A groundbreaking ceremony is anticipated in October. For developers and lenders, this project highlights a significant public-private partnership model for addressing housing affordability and community needs in Los Angeles County.
