Inglewood Initiates Environmental Review for General Plan Update to Guide 2050 Growth

Inglewood officials have initiated the environmental impact report (EIR) process for the city's comprehensive general plan update, an initiative dubbed "Next Level Inglewood." This plan is designed to shape the city's development trajectory through the year 2050 and is slated for adoption by Spring 2027.

The update responds to significant transformations in Inglewood over the past decade, including the establishment of SoFi Stadium and the Intuit Dome. The revised land use element seeks to harmonize zoning regulations with current conditions, specifically by boosting development potential near Hollywood Park and along key commercial arteries. A June 2026 staff report to the Inglewood City Council identified 12 focus areas for these changes.

Proposed zoning modifications include permitting mixed-use buildings, three to six stories high with densities up to 100 residential units per acre, along Centinela Avenue, La Brea Avenue, and Manchester Boulevard. These changes target the redevelopment of commercial parcels, strip malls, and parking lots into mixed-use residential and retail spaces. The public comment period for the general plan update is open until October 15, with a scoping meeting scheduled for October 1, 2026, at Inglewood City Hall.
