Inglewood Greenlights $261 Million Transit and Mobility Project Near Major Venues
The Inglewood City Council has advanced a significant $261 million transit and mobility overhaul, selecting Elevate Inglewood Development Corporation as its private-sector partner. This consortium, comprising Plenary Americas, Swinerton, and Walter P. Moore, will deliver new transportation and public realm improvements. The project's primary goal is to connect the K Line with major venues including SoFi Stadium, the Kia Forum, and Intuit Dome, addressing transportation needs for approximately 60 annual major events and the upcoming 2028 Summer Olympics.
Funding for the entire project comes from grants provided by the State of California and Metro, with no reliance on the city's General Fund. Key components include three new mobility hubs, with the largest situated at Florence Avenue and Market Street, linking to the K Line's Downtown Inglewood Station via a pedestrian bridge. This central hub will feature bus bays and parking. Smaller hubs are planned along Market Street and near the C Line. Additionally, the project encompasses new hardscape, landscaping, wayfinding, street furniture, lighting, and traffic controls along Market, Manchester, and Queen Streets. Event-day bus lanes will also be implemented to facilitate travel to and from the hubs.
Streetscape improvements are slated to begin in November and conclude within two months, while other elements like bus lanes and signal upgrades are expected in 2027. This current plan replaces an earlier proposal for a grade-separated people mover system that faced political opposition in 2024. The design, however, allows for a future people mover if funding becomes available. For developers and property owners in Inglewood, these infrastructure upgrades promise improved accessibility and increased foot traffic around the city's entertainment core.
