Santa Rosa Celebrates Grand Opening of 75-Unit Casa Roseland Affordable Housing Project
The Casa Roseland affordable housing development, located at 583 West Avenue in Santa Rosa, Sonoma County, has officially opened. This five-story infill project, a collaboration between MidPen Housing and the Sonoma County Community Development Commission, includes 75 apartments and the new public park, Plaza Permanente. The development offers one- to three-bedroom units, along with residential amenities such as a community room, learning center, teen room, and in-building laundry. Parking is provided for 108 cars and 68 bicycles. Designed by Van Meter Williams Pollack, the complex is situated at the corner of West Avenue and Sebastopol, near Dutton Avenue and McMinn Avenue.
Matthew O. Franklin, MidPen Housing President and CEO, highlighted the project as a realization of the Roseland community's vision for Tierra de Rosas, emphasizing years of persistence and partnership. Sonoma County Supervisor Chris Coursey noted that Casa Roseland and Plaza Permanente are more than just housing and a park; they are foundational elements for a climate-friendly, equity-centered community reflecting Roseland's pride and diversity. This development underscores the potential for public-private partnerships to deliver significant affordable housing and public space improvements. For stakeholders in real estate, this project illustrates a successful model for urban infill and community-driven development.
