Carnegie Mellon University (CMU) is expanding its footprint to Miami, planning a new 35-acre campus in the city's vibrant Wynwood Arts District. This significant development is made possible by a historic $3 billion gift from billionaire Ken Griffin, CEO of Citadel, marking the largest single donation ever to an American university, with two-thirds earmarked for the Miami project.

The new CMU campus will be situated at the Mana Wynwood convention center site along NW 23rd Street. It is designed to accommodate over 3,500 students, 300 faculty members, and 600 staff, featuring dedicated research hubs, venture studios, and design spaces. David Lombardi, chairman of the Wynwood Business Improvement District, highlighted the project as a "defining moment" for the neighborhood, affirming its vision as a hub for creativity and entrepreneurship.

Construction is projected to commence in 2027, with the first student enrollments anticipated in 2028. This major educational and research institution is expected to accelerate the ongoing progress in Wynwood, attracting talent and fostering innovation within the district. For developers and investors, this project signifies a substantial long-term anchor institution, likely driving further demand and investment in the surrounding Wynwood area.
