Publix Super Markets, a major Florida-based grocer, has acquired the Airpark Plaza retail center in Miami for $83.25 million. The transaction, involving a subsidiary of Publix and seller First Washington Realty, was confirmed by a deed filed this week. Located at 5705 Northwest Seventh Street, the 204,740-square-foot plaza was originally built in the 1970s and last sold in 2008 for $36.8 million. Other tenants in the center include Burlington, TD Bank, First Watch, and The UPS Store.

This acquisition is part of Publix's long-term strategy to expand its real estate holdings. The company has dramatically increased its ownership of store locations, from 14% in 2009 to 38% by the end of 2025. This aggressive expansion, including opening new stores in close proximity to existing ones in areas like Pembroke Pines and Oakland Park, aims to secure prime locations and strengthen its market position against competitors such as Amazon and Kroger. Developers and investors should note Publix's continued appetite for strategic retail property acquisitions in key Florida markets.
