Friedkin Group Establishes 7,000 SF Austin Office Amidst Texas Hockey Team Bid
The Houston-based Friedkin Group is establishing a 7,000-square-foot office within Austin's Music Lane development. This strategic move occurs as the conglomerate, through its sports investment arm Pursuit Sports, holds a six-month exclusive from the National Hockey League to explore bringing a new team to Texas, with Austin and Houston as potential host cities. The new Austin office, designed by Gensler, is anticipated to be completed by the end of November.
Music Lane is recognized for its eco-friendly and sustainable design, featuring rainwater capture cisterns and sustainable timber, a project that earned Lake Flato Architects a major AIA award. Friedkin Group, led by billionaire Dan Friedkin, is actively scouting locations for an 18,000-seat hockey arena, which would require 30 to 40 acres for the venue, parking, and an entertainment district. While Houston Mayor John Whitmire expresses optimism for his city's selection due to its larger television market, Friedkin's investment in a high-quality Austin office suggests a significant, long-term commitment to the city. This development indicates potential for substantial new construction and economic activity in the chosen Texas city.
