Construction Progresses on 23-Story Student Housing Tower at 2200 Bancroft Way in Berkeley
Construction is actively underway at 2200 Bancroft Way in Berkeley's Southside neighborhood, where a 23-story student housing tower is rapidly taking shape. Developed by UC Berkeley Capital Strategies, this project is poised to become the city's tallest building, surpassing existing structures like the offices at 2150 Shattuck Avenue and Anchor House student dorm.
The 276-foot-tall tower will encompass approximately 340,000 square feet, featuring 1,625 residence hall-style beds and 19,500 square feet of open space. Amenities for residents include a 500-seat two-story dining facility, social lounges, laundry rooms, and a fitness center. Each residential floor will also host quiet study lounges. KieranTimberlake serves as the lead design architect, with Clark Construction as the general contractor. The site, previously home to a small office and parking, is located across from Edwards Stadium at the southwest edge of the UC Berkeley campus. Construction began in January of this year, with an anticipated completion by summer 2028, ready for the 2028-2029 academic year. This development will significantly expand student housing capacity and redefine Berkeley's skyline.
