Stan Kroenke Acquisition of Angels Sparks Potential Renewal of Anaheim Stadium District Deal

Billionaire sports magnate Stan Kroenke has moved to acquire a controlling stake in the Los Angeles Angels, creating an opening for the City of Anaheim to revive negotiations over approximately 150 acres surrounding Angel Stadium.

Prior attempts by former owner Arte Moreno to purchase the municipal property fell apart in 2022 during a federal corruption investigation involving Anaheim's former mayor. Anaheim Mayor Ashleigh Aitken indicated optimism that Kroenke will collaborate with municipal leaders on a new master-planned vision for the stadium site once Major League Baseball approves the team transaction.

Kroenke holds an extensive portfolio of sports-anchored commercial real estate. His track record includes the 300-acre Hollywood Park development surrounding SoFi Stadium in Inglewood and the planned $10 billion, 52-acre Rams Village in Warner Center. The Angel Stadium site sits directly across the freeway from OCVibe, a privately financed $5 billion entertainment and residential district being built around the Honda Center by the Anaheim Ducks ownership.

A finalized ownership change could unlock one of Orange County's largest infill development sites for master-planned mixed-use, hotel, and housing opportunities.
