San Jose Planning Director to Review 645-Unit Icon Echo Development
The San Jose Planning Director is scheduled to review the Icon Echo proposal, a significant mixed-use development in Downtown San Jose. Local developer Urban Catalyst is behind the project, which aims to bring 645 new dwelling units to the area. The plan involves two eight-story structures, named Icon and Echo, located at 145 East Santa Clara Street and 95 North 4th Street, respectively. These buildings will overlook City Hall and are a block from Saint James Park.
The development encompasses 526,120 square feet, with 366,080 square feet dedicated to housing and 1,320 square feet for ground-level commercial retail in the Icon building. Parking for 527 cars will be provided via stackers. Notably, 33 of the 645 units are designated as deed-restricted affordable housing, offering a mix of studios, one-bedrooms, and two-bedrooms. BDE Architecture designed the podium-style complex, featuring brick veneer, stucco, and cast stone panels. The Planning Director's Hearing, scheduled for August 12th, will consider the site development permit and vesting tentative map, with city staff recommending approval. This project represents a notable addition to San Jose's housing supply, particularly for its downtown core.
