Tarrant County College broke ground in October on a three-story science building at its Northeast Campus in Hurst. The 84,438-square-foot facility carries an $85 million price tag and is scheduled to open in fall 2028, when the campus marks its 60th year.

The building is the central piece of a $225 million Northeast Campus project that also renovates three existing buildings, adding or modernizing more than 224,000 square feet of educational space. The work falls under TCC's $955 million construction program, which voters supported with $825 million in bonds approved in 2019. According to an August budget presentation, the college used other existing funding sources to cover escalated costs.

Faculty helped plan the new labs, describing aging equipment and layouts in the current 1968 building. The new space will include specialized labs, study areas and meeting rooms. Officials at the October groundbreaking, including State Rep. Salman Bhojani, emphasized the college's role in expanding access to education.

For developers and financing partners, the project is a publicly funded, bond-backed institutional build with a fixed timeline, showing how college districts are renewing older campus stock.
