Digital Realty, in collaboration with Assured Communications, is set to develop a new cable landing station (CLS) directly within its LAX12 data center in El Segundo, California. Announced on September 22, this project aims to create a direct on-ramp for subsea cable capacity into the broader Los Angeles metropolitan area. The CLS is specifically designed to facilitate routes between Asia-Pacific and North America, with operations expected to commence by 2028.

This initiative reflects a growing trend where hyperscale cloud and AI providers seek to integrate subsea cable terminations directly into established data center and interconnection environments, rather than relying on standalone landing stations. Craig Waldrop, Digital Realty's vice president of strategy and business development, highlighted the importance of this integration, stating that international subsea capacity gains significant value when efficiently connected to data centers, networks, cloud providers, and customers. Assured Communications will provide design, engineering, and construction expertise for the turnkey solution. This development streamlines the process for subsea cable operators to land and power their systems, enhancing global digital infrastructure.
