Meta Housing Completes 160-Unit Affordable Housing Project in Florence-Firestone
Construction has concluded on the Metro @ Florence Apartments, a new affordable housing complex situated at 7220 Maie Avenue in unincorporated Florence-Firestone. Developed by Meta Housing Corp., the seven-story building replaces a former car wash adjacent to Metro's A Line Florence Station. The project delivers 160 apartments, offering studio, one-, and two-bedroom configurations, specifically designated for households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income.
Initial plans indicated that 72 of these units would be dedicated to permanent supportive housing. Beyond residential spaces, the development incorporates over 12,000 square feet of open space for residents, including a rooftop deck and courtyard. It also features 3,100 square feet of ground-floor retail and 2,100 square feet for community and office use, complemented by 120 parking spaces.
Funding for the Metro @ Florence Apartments included $51 million in bonds from Los Angeles County. Additionally, the California Strategic Growth Council contributed $30.8 million in 2023 through its Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities program. This state funding is intended to support on-site services, laundry facilities, outdoor recreation, and the acquisition of nine zero-emission buses. The completion of this transit-oriented development provides much-needed affordable and supportive housing options in the region.
