Meta Housing Corp. Completes 160-Unit Affordable Housing Project in Florence-Firestone
Construction has concluded on the Metro @ Florence Apartments, a significant affordable housing development located at 7220 Maie Avenue in unincorporated Florence-Firestone. Developed by Meta Housing Corp., this seven-story building introduces 160 studio, one-, and two-bedroom units, specifically designated for households earning between 30 and 60 percent of the area median income. The project, situated adjacent to the Metro A Line's Florence Station, replaced a former car wash, demonstrating a strategic approach to infill development near transit hubs.
Approved plans for the Metro @ Florence Apartments included over 12,000 square feet of resident open space, featuring a rooftop deck and courtyard, alongside 3,100 square feet of ground-floor retail and 2,100 square feet of community and office areas. Funding for the development involved $51 million in bonds from Los Angeles County and a $30.8 million award in 2023 from the California Strategic Growth Council's Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities program. This funding supports on-site services, laundry, recreation, and the acquisition of nine zero-emission buses, highlighting a comprehensive approach to sustainable community building. The completion of such projects underscores the continued viability of transit-oriented affordable housing initiatives supported by public funding.
