Groundbreaking Begins on Two-Building, 500-Plus Unit Project in Redwood City
Development and financial staff from High Street Residential and Barings recently held a groundbreaking for a two-part development at 1555 El Camino Real in Redwood City. The project includes two separate multifamily buildings with more than 500 homes combined.
The first building keeps the 1555 El Camino Real address and will contain 252 units along with about 5,277 square feet of ground-floor retail. The second building will sit at 113 Beech Street and includes 249 units. Both properties offer studio through three-bedroom layouts, and a share of units in each will be reserved as affordable housing.
Amenities across both communities include rooftop decks, lounges, clubrooms, a resort-style pool, spas, covered parking and coworking space, with nearby green space. The podium designs use varied massing to break up the bulk, with a modern facade that matches the height of surrounding buildings.
The site sits in a former industrial and commercial area between El Camino Real and the Caltrain tracks in central Redwood City, within walking distance of the Caltrain station.
For developers and lenders, this is a large, transit-oriented multifamily project in a formerly industrial corridor, with affordable set-asides and ground-floor retail that will require coordination with the city's entitlement and financing records.
