Preliminary Application Filed for 98-Unit Apartment Project in Palo Alto
A preliminary application has been filed for a new seven-story apartment complex at 2181 Park Boulevard in Palo Alto, Santa Clara County. The proposal, submitted by Brion McDonald through 2211 Park Boulevard LLC, seeks to construct 98 apartments, including 13 units designated as affordable for lower-income households. The project leverages California's Senate Bill 79 to streamline its approval process.
The 75-foot-tall structure is designed to encompass approximately 101,500 square feet of housing. Planned amenities on the ground floor include a lobby, an amenity lounge, and bicycle parking, notably without on-site vehicular parking. The development site, situated along Park Boulevard between California Avenue and Stanford Avenue, is currently occupied by three commercial office structures at 2151, 2181, and 2211 Park Boulevard, which would be demolished. Its location is strategically close to the California Avenue Caltrain Station and a local grocery store, making it a transit-oriented development. This project signifies a move towards increased housing density in a high-demand area, utilizing state legislation to expedite development.
