The City of Fort Worth has selected Wedgwood East, a southwest neighborhood, as its Neighborhood Improvement Program recipient for 2027. The city announced the choice during a city council work session, committing $4.3 million over three years to improve quality of life and safety.

The neighborhood, bounded by Interstate 20 to the north and Altamesa Boulevard to the south, has more than 1,300 households. Its median income of $65,625 trails the citywide median of $82,503, and its poverty rate of 18% is above the city average of 13%, according to the city.

Funding is staged across three years. The first year allocates $1 million for community meetings to shape priorities, the second allocates $2.3 million for project implementation, and the third allocates $1 million to close out projects and continue engagement. Typical projects include streetlight and street upgrades, public safety cameras and cleanup of illegal dumping.

Residents and the neighborhood association describe strong community engagement. Local priorities include revitalizing commercial properties, attracting new businesses, and improving traffic control. Problem areas include vacant and rundown properties along the Altamesa corridor, which residents have asked the city to address through demolition.

The city council will vote to approve the selection at its November 10 meeting.

For developers and property investors, the program signals public reinvestment along the Altamesa and McCart corridor, where commercial redevelopment is a stated goal.
