Updated renderings provide a closer look at 430 Broadway Building A, a proposed five-story senior affordable housing development in Oakland's Jack London Square. This project, spearheaded by Related Companies in a joint venture with East Bay Asian Local Development Corporation, will replace a surface parking area and annex of the former Alameda County Probation Department offices at 430 Broadway.

The structure is designed to yield approximately 56,020 square feet, including 36,000 square feet dedicated to housing. It will offer 66 units, comprising 25 studios, 40 one-bedrooms, and one two-bedroom apartment. The design, a collaboration between David Baker Architects and Y.A. Studio, features a distinctive sawtooth bay window facade overlooking Franklin Street, utilizing fiber cement siding, thin brick veneer, and concrete panels.

Building A is part of a broader master plan for 401 and 430 Broadway, which aims to transform two city blocks into a mixed-use development with around 192 affordable units across three structures at 430 Broadway alone. Located at the corner of 5th Street and Franklin Street, the site is four blocks from the Jack London Station waterfront. While permits for the larger plan were filed in late 2024, the estimated cost and construction timeline for Building A have not yet been disclosed. This development signifies a significant step in providing much-needed affordable housing for seniors and redeveloping a prominent urban site in Oakland.
