Publix Super Markets Inc. has acquired two prominent shopping centers in Miami, Florida, from First Washington Realty (FWR), a Bethesda, Md.-based owner-operator. This strategic move involves properties where Publix already serves as the anchor tenant, indicating a direct investment in its operational footprint.

The acquired assets include Airpark Plaza, a substantial 171,443-square-foot retail center located near Miami International Airport at 5715 N.W. 7th St. The second property is The Shoppes at Quail Roost, a 73,550-square-foot center situated on Miami’s south side at 20201 S.W. 127th Ave. Both shopping centers were fully leased at the time of sale, underscoring their stability as income-generating assets. While the sales price was not disclosed, the transaction highlights a trend of major retailers consolidating ownership of their anchored properties. For real estate developers and investors, this demonstrates the continued value of well-located, grocery-anchored retail centers, particularly when a strong tenant like Publix opts for direct ownership.
